The city authorities of Bethlehem have canceled all Christmas celebrations this year. Religious leaders had already decided in November to postpone Christmas celebrations this year. Now Bethlehem Municipality has officially canceled all parades and children's events, leaving only religious ceremonies and prayers.

"We canceled the Christmas fair, carols, children`s events, because there is mourning in Bethlehem. We are very sad, because we are an essential part of the Palestinian community," said Hanania, the mayor of Bethlehem.

In Bethlehem's Manger Square, where the Christmas tree is usually placed, an installation called "The Birth of Christ under the Ruins" was installed.

According to Euronews no tourist will be able to visit Bethlehem, because the West coast of the Jordan River has been practically isolated since October 7.
